Manufacturing Engineer

In the more than 50 years that Midland Manufacturing has been in existence, we have developed a reputation as a solid, progressive, worldwide leader in the manufacturing of relief and angle valves and gauges for the railroad tank car, marine barge, and ISO storage container industries. Over the past several years, Midland has experienced significant growth due to increased need for our products both domestically and internationally.

We seek a high-energy manufacturing engineer who is able to evaluate, improve, and develop manufacturing processes as needed. This person should utilize his/her knowledge of product design, materials, machining, and assembly processes, to improve safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the manufacturing facility. This person will be responsible to help lead the continuous improvement projects such as cycle time reduction, setup time reduction, inventory reduction, work space utilization, and work force utilization.

There are several “must haves” or requisites to fill this need, and they are:

  • A minimum of 3 years successful work experience as a manufacturing engineer
  • Broad knowledge of production machinery, CNC machine centers, tooling, programming, and machining processes
  • Broad knowledge of assembly tools and processes
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and planning skills
  • Able to handle multiple projects at one time
  • Utilize a data-focused approach to problem solving
  • Experienced in ISO 9000/2000 requirements and procedures
  • Able to create and maintain assembly and machining procedures
  • Able to perform and analyze capability studies and gage R&R’s
  • Be a team builder – listens and considers input from others
  • Must have the personal traits of a “Change Leader”
  • Must be a hands on individual willing to spend a large portion of time on the shop floor.
  • Must have a BS in Engineering or the equivalent

Other skill sets desired include experience in:

  • Knowledge of lean philosophies such as one piece flow, kanban, and 5S
  • Six Sigma
  • Manual and robotic welding
  • Design for manufacturability
  • Working knowledge of material properties
  • Proficient in MS Office including MS Access and MS Project
